The European Commission and Finnova Foundation’s open innovation initiative will present this year call of StartUp Europe Awards in the framework of WEX Global 2019

Porto, 01-03-2019. The Finnova Foundation , in the framework of the WEX Global 2019 Summit in Porto, launches the call for Energy StartUp Europe Awards, Energy Country Managers, Energy Ambassadors (Members of the European Parliament) and Energy Media Partners.

WEX Global is an action-oriented summit which places face-to-to face commercial and technical meetings at its heart. This 12th edition is entitled ‘Applying Intelligence to the Circular Economy in Water & Energy’. WEX Global 2019 aims to determine how to increase circular economy implementation and impact, by connecting digital technology and human intelligence within the wider context of industries, municipalities and civil society.

“Energy and Water sectors present a genuine need for circular economy innovation. We truly believe that the challenges we are facing can be solved with the help of startups, and to this end we are proud to start this collaboration with the Energy StartUp Europe Awards and Finnova, in order to enhance the cooperation and boost the startups that can provide solutions”,has stated Mark Barker, CEO WEX Global.

In 2015, the European Commission adopted an ambitious Circular Economy Action Plan, which includes measures that will help stimulate Europe’s transition towards a circular economy, boost global competitiveness, foster sustainable economic growth and generate new jobs.

The general director for Finnova, Juan Manuel Revuelta, will take part as a speaker in the WEX Global 2019 Summit between 4- 6 March, which will be held at the Solverde Hotel in the City of Gaia (near Porto, Portugal). As well as participating as a speaker, Finnova will present the Energy Awards category of the Start Up Europe Awards, which will recognize the best European startups in the energy sector at the end of 2019.

Energy StartUp Europe Awards 2019 is looking for country managers, who can organise the energy award at national level in order to recognize the best Energy startup in their respective countries. The call is also open to Energy Media Partners, who could provide visibility and follow the progress of the participants, and for Energy Ambassadors, Members of the European Parliament who could provide institutional support and invite a group of Energy startups to visit EU institutions.

StartUp Europe Awards (SEUA) is an initiative of the European Commission and Finnova Foundation, supported by the President of the European Parliament, the President of the Committee of the Regions, the Vice-President of the Economic and Social Committee and several members from the European Parliament. It recognizes the effort of European startups in 22 categories for 2019, in five geographical levels (Local, County, Regional, National and European) and now global.

It presents a prize methodology for startups that fosters the open innovation and the collaboration between the different actors of the European ecosystem, through the private-public partnership to support entrepreneurs.

WEX Global 2019 brings together the people- those responsible for implementing projects, those with the technical know-how and those who can benefit from international cooperation to overcome local challenges.
